Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m a 75 year old kid who has wanted a 1950 Crestliner since I saw the first one in 1950. Had to wait all this time to get it though. Talk about patience!!!
How did you first get interested in this hobby/passion?
I guess I was born into liking cars ever since I was living in Terre Haute, Ind. in the 1940s and 1950s, when my dad and his brother raced a V8-60 midget and would often rebuild vital parts on our kitchen table, much to my mothers disgust.
What Rides do you currently own?
Currently, I own the 1950 Ford Crestliner, a 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe and my daily driver is a 2012 Ford Mustang convertible.
Here’s the final product of my Crestliner, with engine by Hot Rods and Custom Stuff. It runs fantastic: Merc crank, aluminum pistons, bored .30 over, Offy heads and dual intake with Stromberg 94s, Mallory electronic ignition, adjustable lifters, balanced and blueprinted with Reds Headers and Smitty glasspacks. The way it was WAY back when.
What do you like most about your Cool Rides?
These are my babies since the day I figured out that life is too darn short to drive any boring cars.
What is the best memory you have with your favorite ride?
The best memory is pulling up to a car show in the Crestliner and having people try to guess what it is, who built it and are those the original colors?
How do you store your ride(s) during infrequent use, and what maintenance tips can you provide for readers?
Tips: Change oil depending on your usage. I change every year but also I put only about 1,000 miles a year on the 1949 and the 1950.
What was the first car you ever owned?
My first car, way back in 1951 (yes, I know, I was only 14) was a war surplus Willys Jeep I bought for $50.00 and proceeded to beat it to death. Best $50 I ever spent.
What is/was the BEST car ever made?
My best car was a new 1971 Datsun (Nissan to the youngsters) 240Z that I had worked to the hilt, i.e., new cam, 3 Solex carbs, complete dual header/exhaust system.
What is/was the WORST car ever made?
Can’t name the worst car ever built since there are so many candidates I can’t separate them.
Is there anything else you’d like the Cool Rides Online members to know about you?
Strangest car I ever owned was a 1937 Audi Cabriolet that I found behind a gas station when I was stationed in Berlin, Germany in 1958. Wish I had a lot of my old cars back.
