Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I bought my first classic car a few years ago when I turned 40. It was a black 77 Trans Am as my “mid life crisis”… Now I’ve added another TA, and joined a car club; I now am Vice President doing my best to run some great cruise nights. I’m married with 2 boys who love to go on cruises & to shows, or to just drive to the ice cream shop.
How did you first get interested in this hobby/passion?
I actually saw a 1981 Turbo Trans Am …at a tag sale. Started thinking about one I had in high school and re-kindled my need for a muscle car. I started cruising online for Trans Ams and found my present one. I had no thoughts about “car shows” or “cruise nights” as a hobby when I bought it.
What Rides do you currently own?
A 1977 Pontiac Trans Am, Black, with T Tops and 104k miles; a 1989, 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am with 11k miles; and a 2009 Chevy Tahoe LTZ.
What do you like most about your Cool Rides?
I love to drive with the T tops off and really enjoy the attention and waves while driving the “Smokey & the Bandit” car. It’s a lot of fun to pull into the gas station with AC/DC blasting and have all the guys there come over to check it out. I really enjoy the Firebird club events too – great guys and we have a good time.
What is the best memory you have with your favorite ride?
I went to a show hosted by a local Police Dept where they had a dozen restored older Police cars. The officer in charge of the show asked me & another guy with a black Bandit TA if they could chase us around. We couldn’t say “YES” fast enough! With the 2 Bandits in the lead, 12 vintage cop cars chased us (speed limit of course) with lights & sirens up the highway & back to the show. Should have seen the people pulling out of our way. I still wonder what they thought was going on..
What was the first car you ever owned?
1975 Olds Cutlass 2dr; ugliest baby blue thing ever…
What is/was the BEST car ever made?
That’s a tough one… I would have to say the 1969 Trans Am Ram Air IV but I wouldn’t turn down a chance to drive a Chevelle 454 or a Cobra either! For Luxury, I’d have to go 1974 Chrysler Imperial New Yorker.
What is/was the WORST car ever made?
Another tough one.. So many. Most might say Pacer or Pinto but I guess I’d go modern and say that square Honda SUV thing. No style at all.
How did you first hear about the Cool Rides Online website?
Found Cool Rides by accident searching for sponsors for my car club’s cruise nights. Submitted my photos that night, and not long after competed in the monthly Cool Ride contest (and won!)
Is there anything else you’d like the Cool Rides Online members to know about you?
I really enjoy the hobby. I’ve made a lot of new friends. I was never very mechanical, but over the past few years have learned a lot. It’s very satisfying to do the work and bring something back to original condition. I’m glad I found the hobby, and great sites like Cool Rides to promote it and keep it fun!
