My name is Bill Collopy and I am 66 years old. I was born in Chicago, went to St. George High School, spent four years in the USAF, and one year in Viet Nam as a crew chief on F 4 C fighters. I have been married for 48 years and I have two children and five grandchildren. Right now I am still working – I own a manufacturing company in a NW suburb of Chicago.
I first learned about Cool Rides Online when it first started. I received an email and signed up. Currently I own a 1955 Chevy convertible resto and an original 1962 Chevy Bel Air 409. Both of them are unique. The ’55 was a three year frame off build with many subtle upgrades and the ’62 is a stock and beautiful “Day Two” certified 409. These two are pretty much my dream cars.
My favorite memory with my Cool Rides is all the money I spent on them!! The most difficult modification I’ve completed has probably been getting the body and paint perfect on the ’55 – I painted it three times. Since its completion it has been awarded numerous Best of Show awards, scored 996 at the Classic Chevy Convention, 997 points at the Chevy Corvette and Muscle Car Show as well as Best in Class, and it was awarded Best in Class and the “Chairman’s Pick” at the Milwaukee World of Wheels. Currently I am looking for a third project car although I’m not sure what it will be.
A tip that I have for someone taking care of a collector vehicle would be to never wash it with water or use any wax/polish on the car/finish. I use a California Duster which is a high-quality detail mist. I also use only high quality micro fiber rags. Enjoy the cars and keep the hobby going!
