Knight Rider

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am a retired Communications Technician and also worked in Graphic Arts for about 15 years. I am in a Beatles cover band, playing the John part.

How did you first get interested in this hobby/passion?

I was always in love with Corvettes. I would build plastic models of them when I was young, and finally, in my 20s, I was able to buy a real one, used. It was Mille Miglia red and a 1974 beauty. This was 1979. In 1982, Knight Rider came on Television and I had a new car love. I actually took out the interior dash of the Vette, and built my own digital dash and steering wheel to look like KITT’s. Fast forward to 2009. I bought a 1984 Firebird and started the conversion to the most accurate, first season KITT hero car. I specify First Season because there were many changes to KITT every season; I always preferred the first season, after his voice modulator had been changed from the single flashing red to the three line modulator.

What Rides do you currently own?

This is the only Ride worth mentioning.

What do you like most about your Cool Rides?

It’s the car I’ve always wanted. I love the digital dash and all the gadgets. I love the lines of the car too. It is very sleek, and the nose is not unlike a 70s Corvette!

What is the best memory you have with your favorite ride?

I’m still creating them, but I love going to the shows and having him “talk” to everyone. I originally thought the kids would like it, but it seems the grown-ups enjoy it even more!

How do you store your ride(s) during infrequent use, and what maintenance tips can you provide for readers?

I have a really good cover that provides protection for the car. It is soft material on the inside, but a 100% waterproof exterior that also lets the car breathe. I recommend keeping it covered whenever it’s not in use. Also, it’s a good idea to keep the battery on a trickle charge when storing it long term. Change the oil before storing it and add a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank. I also use those little silica packets that come with any electronics that you buy to keep humidity and moisture low inside. I just put them on the floor over the carpet. I also have some Damp Rid I place in the rear hatch area.

What was the first car you ever owned?

A 1967 Camaro 327, 4bbl…

What is/was the BEST car ever made?

I have no opinion on that.

What is/was the WORST car ever made?

Again, still no opinion, although I hate Carmine Ghias, but that’s a personal thing and has nothing to do with how the car is made.

How did you first hear about the Cool Rides Online website?

I don’t remember, but maybe from Facebook?

Is there anything else you’d like the Cool Rides Online members to know about you?

I have a pretty large, 1/32nd scale slot car track and lots of cars for it, but no place to set it up. Someday…
