Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is James Stachowicz. I have been serving in the US Army for 16 years; currently I am in Afghanistan. My wife and I have been married for 15 years and we have two boys, 12 and 6.
How did you first get interested in this hobby/passion?
My dad and uncles were always working on something when I was a kid. I always enjoyed watching and learning how to fix and build things myself.
What Rides do you currently own?
Now I have a 2013 Kia Optima turbo; it’s not a bad car. I also have a 2000 GMC truck. I have had it for years. Then there is my 1972 Pontiac Ventura. This car is my baby, I have had it for 20 years now.
What do you like most about your Cool Rides?
I love hanging out in my garage and working on my car, making it look better and go faster. I also enjoy taking it out to cruise and to the drag strip when I have the time.
What is the best memory you have with your favorite ride?
Riding around Colorado Springs with my girlfriend (now my wife) and taking her to the track and letting her drive the car. This car is part of our life. I grew up in this car, fell in love with my wife in this car, and now I am teaching my boys life lessons with this car.
How do you store your ride(s) during infrequent use, and what maintenance tips can you provide for readers?
Because I am in the Army I have been away from home a lot over the last 12 years. When I leave I always put STA-BIL in the gas tank and run it for a bit to make sure it makes its way into the carburetor. I also check the coolant, make sure there is plenty of air in the tires and cover it. This winter I also tied air mattresses to the side of the car so when my wife pulls her car next to it in the garage the kids can’t ding the side of the car.
What was the first car you ever owned?
This one! My 1972 Pontiac Ventura.
What is/was the BEST car ever made?
I am not sure, I was raised a GM fan and I love the old cars but new muscle cars can do some amazing things.
What is/was the WORST car ever made?
The Renault Alliance. My dad had one for a bit. He picked me up for driver’s education class with it, I popped the clutch and the seat broke. It was not fun and my dad was not happy.
How did you first hear about the Cool Rides Online website?
I met a guy at a car show. He has a white Nova that has been one the sight.
