Please tell us a little bit about yourself…
I was born and raised in a small town (Guelph Ontario Canada), just a short drive from Toronto. I worked as a professional firefighter & Captain for close to 30 years. I enjoy spending time with family and friends and I love to travel & cruise. I like to remain active and live a healthy lifestyle.
How did you first learn about Cool Rides Online?
For many many years, I have always used STA-BIL products for winter storage of my vehicles. I then began to actively use twitter just a few years back. While following many auto clubs, journalists and enthesiests, I found the Cool Rides Online Twitter link, and I have been following you now for some time.
What Cool Rides do you currently own?
I own a 2009 Challenger SRT8 and I also own a 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400 (will be cloned to a Trans Am)
Now tell us a little about your favorite “Cool Ride”; what makes it special?
I had bought the Challenger SRT during a very difficult time. My health was failing and I had stopped working. Many activities that I once enjoyed were no longer possible due to my health condition. The one activity that I was still able to enjoy was the ability to cruise….. And that’s when I bought this beautiful car. I planned a trip from Southern Ontario to the West Coast of USA and back through Canada. It was a very long cruise but I was able to see some amazing sites, cruise a few incredible roads and meet some great people along the way. During the cruise, I was able to come to terms with how my life had changed and began to accept my new world. To be able to get into a beautiful muscle car, cruise long distances, do a lot of thinking and enjoy the beauties that this world offers, thats what made my car become a cool ride!
What’s next for your Cool Ride? Planning additional work for it or maybe a special trip/cruise?
Next year I wish to cruise Route 66 from Southern Ontario, pick up Route 66 from Chicago and then Cruise to Arizona…. I want to see the Grand canyon. From there I want to cruise to Utah and see the Bonneville Salt Flats. From there, drive Northwest through Oregon/ Washington/ British Columbia and then back through the Rockies and make my way home to Southern Ontario.
What was the most difficult modification you’ve completed on any of your Cool Rides?
Well, right now, I have a 1969 Firebird that is under going a complete nut and bolt restoration. Due to my health condition I am limited as to what I can assist with but I am thoroughly enjoying the process and I am very excited to drive the final product.
What’s your favorite memory involving your Cool Ride?
One of my most memorable moments I had with the 2009 Challenger was Cruising through the Rocky Mountains. The sites were majestic, the vista’s were breathtaking and cruising those mountain roads in a performance car… Wow!
What is your dream car to own if money was not an issue?
A numbers matching 1971, 426 Hemi Challenger, 4 spd. Hemi Orange of course!!
Taking care of collector vehicles is not easy. Do you have any special tips on how to take care of your Cool Rides in and out of storage?
I always use STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer in all of my cars. Not only will it help remove condensation, but it will prevent oxidation of the fuel system. I also recommend that prior to the end of the cruise season, change the engine oil/filter. I don’t want to store my car with fluids that my be acidic or having contaminants. I always wash and clean my car a week prior to storage, make sure the week is clear weather and not raining etc. I don’t want to store my car while water or moisture is on the vehicle. Lift the car onto engine stands, disconnect and remove the battery. Then use a quality breathable car cover and lock up the car in a garage if possible, out of direct sunlight. Always keep insurance on your car. As a firefighter, I have seen many cool rides destroyed while in storage.
Is there anything else you’d like the Cool Rides Online members to know about you?
I have experienced many personal challenges in the last few years and needless to say, every day is or can be difficult. I have found new ways to enjoy life and stay positive. Cruising in my cars takes me to a whole different world and its a great way to soul search. Live life to the Max….everyday.
