Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’ve been around car fanatics all of my life! My dad, grandfather, and all of my uncles were back yard mechanics, and hot rodders all of their lives!
How did you first get interested in this hobby/passion?
I was always “helping” my dad with his cars–more like I was his “gopher”-go for this, go for that! I learned what every tool in his tool collection was by the age of 8! I was also the FIRST girl to ever be allowed to take Auto mechanics and small engine repair in my school district back in the 70’s!
The teacher didn’t like the idea of a GIRL being in one of his classes, so he assigned me to the tool cage, until he found out that the boys were coming to ME for help with an assignment we all had involving carb rebuilding! Back then, I could rebuild a carb in one evening! I’ve always loved being the GIRL who knew about fast cars, and it just stayed with me all of my life.
What Rides do you currently own?
I currently own a 1978 Chevy El Camino.
What do you like most about your Cool Rides?
I love that it’s 35 years old and even though it’s a classic, I’ve been able to add my own personal touches to it. It’s a head turner and a blast to drive!
What is the best memory you have with your favorite ride?
The looks and thumbs ups I get from people wherever I go in my 78 Elky, and the look of shock on people’s faces when I race it. AND being appointed as the Texas Central region Deputy Director for the National El Camino Owners Association! *NECOA http://www.elcaminocentral.com/
How do you store your ride(s) during infrequent use, and what maintenance tips can you provide for readers?
I don’t store my ride – it’s a daily driver! I shuttle my kids around in it daily, and use it to go get groceries, etc.
What was the first car you ever owned?
A 64 Chevy that my father gave me when I turned 16. I thought I was the Queen of cars with that one!
What is/was the BEST car ever made?
In my opinion, the Chevy El Camino – because I own one, and because it’s everything–a car, a truck, and even has muscle to go along with it.
What is/was the WORST car ever made?
The WORST one I ever owned was a Ford Pinto! Not only did they have the “problems” with exploding gas tanks, but they just sucked in my opinion; poorly designed for anything except for loading groceries into.
How did you first hear about the Cool Rides Online website?
By seeing one of my friends getting chosen for ride of the month, and then the ride of the year contest.
Is there anything else you’d like the Cool Rides Online members to know about you?
I might be an old lady(54 yrs old), but I still love cars, and love being around other “CAR PEOPLE.”
To me, it doesn’t get much better than spending a Saturday with other people who are passionate about their rides, and having my 14 year old daughter as my “pit crew”.(following in her mom’s shoes!)
