1948 Chevy Fleetmaster

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

I have been into hot rodding since I was 15. I bought my first car literally in a basket. It was a 1968 LeMans for 400 dollars.  After lots on bondo, fresh paint, and wheels from a swap meet, I was hooked!  Around 1990 or so, my older brother started Straightline Designs, a drag car shop, and I had access to all sorts of fun tools.  That is when I built my Pro-Street 1986 S10 (The Bluesmobile). It was a successful bracket racer but I got rid of it when my first daughter was afraid to ride in it. I went from that to a 1966 Impala with a stock 283.

What Rides do you currently own?

Right now, I currently have just my 1948 Chevy for a hot rod.  Limited on space and money.

What do you like most about your Cool Rides?

I love the variety of rides.  I believe there is no right or wrong way to build a hot rod. Everyone has different tastes and it’s fun to see them express them. I also like how you can talk to different hot rodders around the country.  The guys I work with are not into it.

What is the best memory you have with your favorite ride?

My best memory of one of my rides is probably with my 48 when we first got it running with the 6 cylinder in it.  Zach and I took a cruise up Lakeshore drive from Holland to Grandhaven. It is a beautiful drive and the feeling was huge. It took a lot of trial and error work to figure it out.

How do you store your ride(s) during infrequent use, and what maintenance tips can you provide for readers?

First thing is to put fresh gas with STABIL in them, from the hot rod to the mowers. They start first try in the spring…And that’s a nice feeling when you can count on that.

What is/was the BEST car ever made?

I think the best car ever made was the old Impalas with the 283. Talk about a dependable, smooth running and riding car.

What is/was the WORST car ever made?

The Edsel makes a lot of those lists, but I think they ooze cool.  Probably the smart car would be the worst. They just don’t look safe

How did you first hear about the Cool Rides Online website?

An ad came up on the sidebar of my Facebook.

Is there anything else you’d like the Cool Rides Online members to know about you?

Just like myself, you don’t have to know a lot about cars to build a hotrod; just use the internet, forums like cool rides, YouTube, books and ask questions.  If the kids and I can build a car, anyone can.
