Back in the day, Buick had a regal reputation. It was the car model GM placed immediately below the highly acclaimed Cadillac. The LeSabre was crowned top-of-the-line for the Buick brand. For more than 47 years, this car was the bestselling full-sized vehicle in America. To highlight its importance, LeSabre was the longest-lasting nameplate in the automotive industry.
The second generation 1962 Buick LeSabre hardtop saw moderate changes from previous years. The major differences were newer taillights, grille and a slightly longer body style. The two-door hardtop was designed with a sporty exterior. The roofline imitated the look of a convertible. The four-door hardtop was rear-wheel drive with an automatic two-speed gearbox. Its top speed was estimated at 109 mph. Although the LeSabre was not produced with performance in mind, the 1962 model saw a larger 401-cubic-inch V8 engine, which came standard with two-barrel high compression. This could produce 280 horsepower. The interior saw a revised instrument panel with a mirrormatic speedometer and updated upholstery trims.
Buick LeSabre Changes with Time
The LeSabre underwent numerous changes after 1962. The biggest transformation came in 1986 with the redesigned front-wheel drive models. The LeSabre continuously pleased drivers and received top awards for reliability from J.D. Power and Associates in the full-sized car segment. The car was produced until 2005 and was replaced by the Lucerne.
