The SEMA Action Network (SAN), a leading voice in the advocacy for vintage car restoration and preservation, has deemed Friday, June 12, Collector Car Appreciation Day 2013, the fourth annual holiday dedicated exclusively to showcasing these classic rides and raising awareness of their importance in American culture.
For the past four years, SAN has been petitioning members of Congress to help deem the date an official national holiday, as the entrepreneurial spirit and legacy of innovation that the automobile industry stateside represents is entwined with our national heritage. Yet again, Senate Resolution 176 has made it a reality, so car lovers across the country can officially rejoice the craftsmanship that goes into restoring a classic.
SAN has organized events across the country to celebrate the holiday, with cruises and car shows taking place in all 50 states throughout the day. This means even casual hot rod fans have no excuse to miss out on a parade of classics next Friday.
To help promote the event, Courtney Hansen, host of Spike TV's "Powerblock" and other television programs, filmed a PSA for SEMA that endorses the festivities. Along with being Hot Rod Magazine's Official Miss Hot Rod for 2013, Hansen, a self proclaimed gearhead, is also the owners of a 1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible that she refurbished herself, making her the perfect authority for such a project.
