Hey Y’all, welcome back! I had a great break, but it’s good to be back on the road again!
Had a great time at the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction. Attendance was at an all-time high from what I heard, (about 310,000 for the week-long event) and over 1,300 vehicles were sold. It was really cold (for Arizona) the first few days, but it warmed up by mid-week.
My buddy James Brown (JB) and I had a good time driving there in the Big Blue Truck, and he was a lot of help – as was my buddy Craig, John from Innova and Colleen. Marcel (founder of CoolRidesOnline.net) was there doing his thing, and Paul was there too, helping me to start my very own podcast! (Details coming soon).
We saw some of the most amazing cars we’ve ever seen – including the original Batmobile from the 1960s TV series – which was auctioned off for $4.62 million on Saturday night. Holy smokes, Batman! The bidding war came down to a man who expressed interest in buying the Monster Mower earlier that day, and the guy who eventually won. (I heard on SPEED TV that the winner plans to put the Batmobile in his living room!) George Barris, the creator of the Batmobile was there too, and got a lot of applause.
The crowd went wild when Jay Leno showed up in President George W. Bush’s 2009 Ford F-150, which (only) sold for $300,000. The money will benefit the Fisher House Foundation. I hear the winner was NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Jeff Gordon.
Clark Gable’s 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL reached $1.9 million in bidding, which failed to clear the car’s reserve. Off the block, a deal was later finalized to sell the car at $1.85 million.
