George Clooney – Chevrolet Corvette V8 C1 Convertible

George Clooney - Chevrolet Corvette V8 C1 ConvertibleConvertibles Week continues. Many celebrities own and show off classic cars. George Clooney has been seen driving his Chevrolet Corvette V8 C1 convertible around town. This beautiful car with an interesting past was a turning point for Chevy that has influenced Corvette models up to the present day.

The mid-1950s was a trying time for Chevy; the car manufacturer came close to removing the Corvette from its lineup. However, Ford was just beginning to enjoy success with its Thunderbird, a similar two-seat sports car. From the ashes rose the redesigned Corvette. The 1956 Corvette outsold its previous year model by over 500 percent. This dramatic difference showed Chevrolet could enjoy a great comeback.

Modifications to George Clooney’s Chevrolet Corvette V8 C1 Convertible

The 1956 Corvette was the basis for Clooney’s 1958 Corvette C1 convertible. Modifications included new panels and double headlights. To add the feel of luxury to the car, there was increased use of chrome to the body. The interior received upgrades as well. For example, a tachometer was placed in the center of the dashboard. Overall, the car was widened and elongated but remained a two-seat vehicle. This body style stayed the same for the next few years and created a new appreciation for the model. At the time, it was the only true American sports car for sale and provided a nice amount of power.

The general style of the car is extremely sexy, which may be why Clooney chose it. The curves and intricate grille of the car add to its beauty. Clooney turns heads every time he takes his C1 for a ride. He often keeps the top down to show off both the car and its driver. Although some celebrities flash the latest and greatest vehicles, he brings classic style back to Hollywood and shows that oldies are goodies.
