This Friday and Saturday (June 17th & 18th), Mecum Auctions comes to Portland for a great event at which car enthusiasts from around the world will gather to check out some of the hottest classic rides. The auction will be held at the Portland Expo Center, located at 2060 North Marine Drive.  Participants can check out cars that are to be auctioned off as well as road art that is up for sale.

1981 DeLorean DMC-12

The 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 is a replica of the famed Back to the Future vehicle. It has a 3 speed automatic transmission, a stainless steel exterior and gray interior. It was autographed by Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. An external marine speaker plays the movie’s soundtrack and the driver can initiate light, sound and smoke effects from the cabin to the delight of the passengers and passersby.

1969 Pontiac Firebird

A shiny blue 1969 Pontiac Firebird is one of the highlights of this year’s Portland auction. This vehicle delivers a 350 CI engine that was rebuilt in 2008. Drivers can enjoy the 325 HP engine with updated factory air conditioning that has been converted to the environmentally friendly refrigerant, R-134A. With power steering, brakes and windows, this car is a true delight for the driver. A push button radio and visor mirrors add versatility to the cabin.

Highlights of the Mecum Auctions/Portland Schedule

The gates of the Portland Mecum auction open every day at 8:00 am. It is best to arrive early in order to check out all of the lots that are available and decide on which ones to bid. The vehicle auctions begin each day at 10:00 am and the road art auctions start at 8:30 am. Participants who want to consign or auction a vehicle must register to do so by June 5.

This exciting event is also an excellent place to network with other car aficionados during the happy hours and social gatherings. People who do not live close enough to Portland to attend the June auction events can participate by watching it on NBCSN and call in their bids. This is a wonderful way that a person can have a chance at buying the dream car of their youth.
