After driving over 300 miles in the rain with my Eliminator on Friday for the show on Saturday I was relieved to see the sun shine over the Sierra Blanca Mountains. Many of the folks that attended the 6th Annual Mountain High car show hosted by the PineTop Car Club had to drive in because Ruidoso is a sleepy resort town of about 15,000 people. During the Ski season and the Horse Race Season at Ruidoso Downs the population climbs as high as 80,000 in any given day. So Ruidoso is used to hosting great events and this car show was no exception.
The clouds were hovering around the mountain top as we made our way out to the Sierra Blanca Regional Airport. As I drove in I was led down a long runway with a Orange Mustang at the end of the drive. The mustang was not a car but an Airplane. I was instructed to stop my orange Eliminator and they took a picture of my car with the airplane in the background.
The show was well attended with cars from the 30’s to a new Corvette and there were the 50s and even some rat rods and low boys. During the car show we were also treated to an incredible air show. The club honored a WWII veteran with a trip in a plane that dropped parachutes during WWII and she loved it. She would not give away her age but a true veteran.
The show closed with the winners driving their cars in front of the grand stand that played 50s and 60s music all day. It was cool because you got to see the winners in each division. ( I hit about 85% of the ones that were chosen) It was a great day, with great weather but just as the last winning cars drove by and we headed back to town from the small airport, the sky opened up again and once more we were covered. My poor Eliminator saw more rain this past weekend that she has in the last 10 years.
