Saturday morning looked promising with the sun shining and church volunteers preparing for the 3rd Annual Cakes-N-Cars car show at the Asbury United Methodist Church. Cars started parking and the attendees were directed to the church fellowship hall where breakfast was being served. Breakfast was included in the cost of registration and I, for one, enjoyed mine.
This event brought in about 48 cars and trucks, which was lower than the organizers expected, but they were thankful for those who did participate. Several vendors were on hand selling baked goods, items for lunch, and ice cream. Also, a DJ was on hand “spinning” the tunes for all generations.
I was on hand as a sponsor for this show and had my Gold Eagle/CRO booth all set up to provide answers to questions and to spread the Cool Rides Gospel among the participants. I also had the task of finding the “Coolest Ride” at the show to present the “Cool Ride” trophy to. This is always a daunting task since there are several great looking cars and trucks to pick from. The car that I selected was parked next to the booth, a cream and orange colored hot rod. This was “sweet”.
At the end of the day the organizers presented eleven trophies from different categories to worthy vehicles. Although there were not a lot of cars in attendance, there were a lot of spectators that perused the field. A small assortment of midget racers were also on display.
This was another successful show for the Church ladies. All proceeds benefited missions and charities of the church. Each year this show gets better and better as these ladies learn from their experience. I have made myself available to them over the past years to help them.
