The Michigan Widetrackers held their 27th Annual Spring Dust Off car show on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Springfield Oaks County Park in Davisburg, Michigan. It gave the owners of 103 Pontiac, Oaklands, and GMC trucks to shiny up their rides and show them off to each other. The weather looked threatening but it never did rain during the show.
The oldest car in attendance was a 1917 Oakland. The newest cars were the 2009 Solstice GXP coupes and a 2009 G8 GXP. There a total of 24 classes with which all Pontiac, Oaklands, and GMC trucks are represented. The big cars were separate from the pre-WWII cars, the GTOs & Judges and the Lemans/Tempests, the Fieros, Grand Prixes, Bonnevilles and Catalinas, the Firebirds and Trans Ams, the Silver Streaks, and Star Chiefs. You get the idea.
Some of the most unique cars at the show included: a 1980 Catalina Safari station wagon with its original 5.7L diesel engine with only 102,000 miles on it, a 1986 Grand Prix 2+2 aerocoupe (one of 1,225 built), a 1979 Trans Am Daytona 500 Pace Car edition. The funniest thing that happened was the owner of a FAST (Factory Appear Stock Tire) race car literally ran out of gas driving less than 100 feet from his trailer and stalling a few feet from his class section.
Each class was awarded Outstanding (2nd & 3rd) and a Best in Class. The Kay Aldrich Memorial Award went to a ’54 Tin Woodie. The Best in Show went to a ’55 Star Chief. The Cool Rides Online Sponsor trophy when to our own 01BADBIRD as selected by our own JUSTA6! Congratulations to all the winners.
The show was another success for the Pontiac, Oakland, and GMC faithful. Everyone is anxiously awaiting next year’s show.
