SPRING FORWARD 2
Spring Forward is an annual event hosted by Free Bird Vanners. This is their second year of hosting this event. Vans, trucks and rv’s made the trek to this event and Free Bird entertained them well. They hold this event at the Shenandoah Acres Family Campground in Stuarts Draft, VA. It is a beautiful campground that is continually expanding.
I arrived on Friday and was directed to a nice camping spot directly across from the Pavilion where all of the action was to take place. After setting up I walked around and talked with people who I have not seen since the fall of last year. It was great to see them. Later in the evening an old school DJ kept us all entertained by spinning actual vinyl records. It was a great time with everyone dancing with several of the women even getting on top of one of the picnic tables to dance. They also had hot wheels drag races while all of this was going on. I decided since I had brought some hot wheels to sell to bring some over to sell and actually sold quite a few for people wanting to enter the races. I did not get in the races but enjoyed watching them. Also enjoyed watching all the dancing. Ahh….youth.
Saturday came and the van show was lined up on the road right in front of where I was camped and where I had a stand set up. I was able to walk around and check out the vans and took plenty of pictures. They encouraged the people to vote for their favorite in respective categories. I walked around and picked out my choice for the CRO Sponsor’s Choice award. It was tough to do but I was able to pick a deserving van. There were also plenty of games for the kids and adults to play as well.
I walked around all of the vans and I chose a sweet looking 1974 Dodge B-100 Van that just had a complete new interior done by CustomVan.com over the winter for the CRO Sponsor’s Choice Award. It is owned by Paul Shoremount of Winchester, VA. It is a beautiful looking van that he originally owned and sold. He regretted it and finally was able to buy it back and bring it back to where he wanted it to be.
Saturday night we were entertained by the band Happy Feet playing classic rock as well as modern rock. I walked around and visited with some old friends and swapped stories around a campfire while enjoying some adult beverages.
Next year they plan on there being a Spring Forward 3 held at the same campgrounds. Free Bird Vanners is doing a great job with this run and will continue to do so in the future.
