Street Car Bracket Nationals

IMG_6151The weather was beautiful, and the day was set for some great Street Car racing action at Bunker Hill Drag Strip. We had right at 100 entries from Indiana and the surrounding states, which set us up for 8 rounds of non-stop action. There were no tubbed cars, all cars had closed exhaust, full factory glass, DOT Tires, were registered/plated/insured, and had to drive through the gate (no tow vehicle). A true street car platform!

As expected, the times ranged from very slow, to very quick! The two fastest cars on the grounds, (see video) were both driven to the strip from over an hour away, and laid down 6.xx passes (1/8 mile)! It was great to see them get to make a practice pass together! There were old cars, news cars, and just about everything in between.

With the track being “no prep”, it really leveled the playing field. The slower cars had no problems, but the faster cars had to really be on it to deal with the tire spin. The CRO Vega had its issues with it, but we were lucky enough to get by.

In the end, the CRO Vega made it all 8 rounds, but fell .004 short in the Finals to Morgen Wood and his deadly mid ’80’s Malibu Wagon. Morgen started racing in Jr. Dragsters, is still in high school, and is about as tough as it gets when it comes to bracket racing. Congratulations to Morgen Wood on taking home the $1K, the big check, and the 4′ tall CRO trophy!

In closing, it was a great turnout, with cars & racers from Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, Michigan, & even Texas! Want to say Thank You again to CRO for stepping up to sponsor this inaugural event; we considered it a great success!
