The SRT Viper GT3-R is the next generation of GT class racing. It is not street legal because of its enormous power. For just shy of $460,000, this single-seat car can be added to a racing team looking to boost its winning record. The GT3-R is directly related to the SRT Viper street car. The outward appearance is similar, yet the performance dynamics have been carefully crafted to meet the demands of racing. The 2013 release was the first to replace the 2005 version that won two GT3 championships and a World Challenge GT title.
To set itself apart from the regular street version, the GT3-R includes an aerodynamic package, Xtrac 6-speed transmission with paddle shifters and an 8.3 liter V10 engine that provides 680 horsepower and 640 pounds of torque. To enhance the exterior design, a body kit has been developed including a front splitter, adjustable rear wing, fender louvers and a rear diffuser.
The first test for the 2013 SRT Viper GT3-R was at Carolina Motorsports Park last October. Ben Keating took the wheel in preparation for the 2014 racing season. The car was examined to make sure it ran and shifted correctly. Numerous tests were performed to calibrate the engine as well. It made its racing debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona.
The Viper GT3-R is a collaboration of SRT Motorsports and Riley Technologies. Riley has a long history in the design and manufacturing process of successful race cars. Also, Riley has experience with various Daytona prototypes and GT cars.
Developing a winning race car is not a simple task. It requires hard work and dedication that Viper is known for delivering. It is clear that the Viper legacy is in good hands with the latest GT3-R. Any private team interested in competing on a serious level should definitely consider this car.
