2014 In Review – The Engine Answerman Tour, Lawn Mower Racing Season and more!

2014 has been a pretty big year for me and our STA-BIL Engine Answerman Tour!

My tour started out in January at the 2014 BARRETT-JACKSON collector car auction in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona. There are lots of amazingly beautiful cars being sold and they all passed right in front of our truck so I had a front row seat. Talk about a view! There are also loads of car enthusiasts, TV stars, and big personalities at Barrett-Jackson which means I always have a blast. Even though it’s a long 30 hour car ride from Atlanta, Barrett-Jackson is worth the trip. All the great people I get to talk to make it even better!

Enjoying the ride at #daytonabikeweek with @STABILbrand and biker buddies!

In the middle of February I went down to the Progressive Insurance MIAMI INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW. This year, it was crazy! There was a huge sand sculpture of me riding a WaveRunner! It was so cool! Miami is also a good time because of the food. I love getting a full Cuban breakfast with some nice Cuban coffee. I got to see gorgeous boats during the day and then did some late-night people-watching. Night life in Miami never seems to end so neither does the fun!

In March, I went to DAYTONA BIKE WEEK in Florida. It’s always a toss-up as to how the weather is going to be but it was really nice this year. You just can’t beat thousands of roarin’ motorcycles and the wonderful Florida sun! Then, in late April, I went to THUNDER BEACH MOTORCYCLE RALLY in Panama City Beach and the weather finally took a turn for the worst. We got rained out! “Thunder Beach” really lived up to its name!

Shortly after Thunder Beach I went Nashville, Tennessee for the GOOD GUYS 9th NASHVILLE NATIONALS which is a great hot rod show. We had an amazing crowd and even got to listen to a little bit of good ol’ Nashville country music. Just a few days after that, I was in Charlotte, North Carolina for the NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES which was a bit different this year because it was open to the public. I met a lot of who I like to call “Good ol’ boys and girls” who really like to get wild! Once the racing started, everything cleared out and calmed down a bit but I love making new friends and getting to meet y’all on the road.

The HOT ROD POWER TOUR had me traveling from Charlotte, North Carolina all the way to the Wisconsin Dells during a week in June. It was a long, hot, and wonderful seven days. There was a bit of a parking problem but that’s not necessarily a bad problem to have! I always make the best memories on this trip and, this year, one of those memories was Bruce “Mr. Mow-It-All” Kaufman playing his harmonica with a band at a local truck stop. You never know what’s gonna happen (or who you’re going to meet) on the Power Tour!!!

In the middle of July I saw six or seven thousand hot rods at the SYRACUSE NATIONIALS in New York. It’s the largest car show in the Northeast! That means that there are so many of y’all out there who share my love for hot rods. Syracuse has something new to show me every year (and some tasty BBQ).

I then went up to Sturgis, South Dakota for the 74th ANNUAL STURGIS MOTORCYCLE RALLY. This unbelievable rally is the biggest in the entire world. We were there for nine whole days and I lost my voice twice while talking to so many people! Folks come from all around the world and it’s a great place to people-watch. I hand out more samples of STA-BIL® than I can count and it’s always great to be able to answer everyone’s questions.

The 22nd ANNUAL STA-BIL KEEPS GAS FRESH FINALS was particularly special to me this year because I was inducted into the National Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame! That was accompanied by a good ol’ roasting by some of my best friends and riding buddies. They wanted to tell too many stories about me so I had to keep ‘em in check! I also got to race in two different classes which made my weekend even better. I want to send out a big THANK YOU to the United States Lawn Mower Racing Association for the honor! Becoming a Hall of Fame member truly made my year special.

The GIE+ Expo in Louisville was one of my last shows. It’s a great one for me because I love my outdoor power equipment! I worked for a lawnmower company for 27 years so those are my people! I always like to share my knowledge with everyone and see all the new products and innovations.

My year ended with a long drive in my truck to the SEMA SHOW in Las Vegas, Nevada. I had a busy four days filled with lots of walking, talking, and experiencing everything the show had to offer. I got to see the first electric Monster Truck, BIGFOOT #20, and I helped give away a STA-BIL® 360 ’71 Camaro! I ate too much, walked too much, and dried out my skin in the desert heat but I already can’t wait to go back.

This year I have traveled to so many different states for some awesome shows and I couldn’t be more grateful. I can’t believe that I’ve gotten to see so many amazing cars, boats, motorcycles, and people! I love being the Engine Answerman and being there with advice for y’all when you’ve got questions. 2014 has been one wacky ride and I can’t wait to get started on 2015!
